Voices for Recovery FAQ
What is Voices?
Voices is an art-based campaign used to bring awareness to current topics affecting our communities. The Voices Campaign is in its third year:
- Year 1: Vaccinations
- Year 2: Youth mental health
- Year 3: Recovery (current topic)
This unique and immersive approach utilizes community-created artwork to tell stories, raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect people to resources. Each submission carries a unique story and perspective, and the digital gallery holds a collection of art where viewers can discover the inspiration behind the artwork and gain a deeper understanding of the artist’s journey. This gallery stands as a testament to the resilience and creativity of individuals who have bravely navigated the complexities of recovery.
How do I submit my art?
Submissions will be accepted online only. Pieces should be photographed and uploaded, along with a completed form. Please follow the below recommendations:
- Photograph artwork in a well-lit space
- Place artwork in front of a neutral background if possible
- Get close, but leave space around the edge of the artwork in the photo frame
View this page for more tips on getting a good shot.
Size and Type
- One piece of original art per artist will be accepted
- Art can be from any medium – pencil, paint, fiber, clay, written word, song, photograph etc.
- Musical art pieces must be limited to 60 seconds.
What other requirements for submission are there?
This year’s campaign will encourage submissions from community members 16 years old+. Due to the mature subject matter, submissions from younger artists will be accepted when co-sponsored by an adult.
Every person’s experience with SUD is unique, though difficult circumstances are often common. We respect and encourage personal expression of these circumstances via artwork as a pathway to healing. However, due to the wide audience Voices will reach via a digital gallery, only those that can appropriately displayed amongst youth will be included.
Are there prizes?
Yes! The first 150 eligible submissions will receive a $50 digital gift card that can be used at 100s of online retailers for their efforts. Gift cards will be delivered via email at the conclusion of the digital exhibition in February.
When will my art be viewable online and where can I find it?
Your art will be available online starting February 5th at recovery.voicesforcommunityhealth.org
How can I share my artwork with family and friends?
You can share the gallery with your family and friends through social media, email, text, or any other way you prefer. We encourage everyone to view the gallery to understand how recovery affects their community and learn how they can help.
Why do you have to be 16 to participate?
Because of the mature topics involved, this year’s campaign is for people aged 16 and older. We understand that younger children might also have experiences with recovery and could benefit from this project. Therefore, we welcome submissions from younger artists if they are co-sponsored by an adult.
Will the artwork be displayed anywhere in-person?
The Voices team is working with local healthcare clinics and recovery organizations to display some pieces in-person. You will be contacted directly if your art is chosen for in-person display. You can let us know you’re interested in having your piece displayed in-person by giving us permission to do so when submitting your piece online.
Can I submit my art anonymously?
You can submit your artwork anonymously by requesting that we display it under the name “Anonymous.” We will still need your contact information for a valid artwork release, and to reach out with any questions and send you the digital gift card.
I’m not an artist, are there other ways to participate?
Yes, there are ways to participate if you don’t want to submit art.
- View the artwork at recovery.voicesforcommunityhealth.org
- Give artwork a thumbs up or comment to show the artist your support.
- Take the pledge to use stigma free language.
- Watch the videos to learn more about Peer Coaching and their recovery journey.
Once I submit my artwork what’s next?
Once we receive your artwork you will receive an email from Voices for Recovery thanking you for your submission. If you are the among the first 150 submissions, you will also receive a $50 gift card. Your artwork will be placed in the digital art gallery, which will open on February 5th for public viewing and voting.
